OO Gauge Model Railway Video By Dave

Dave is no stranger and is well known for his amazing model railway in the loft of his house.

Here is what Dave had to say…

I started my model railway in the loft 4 years ago. My last one was about 55 years ago as a youngster, but now as I am retired I have more time on my hands.

After visiting a model railway show I decided I would like to have a go at building my own. My layout is approximate 30ft long x 8ft wide and is 00 gauge, all dcc and most Loco`s now have sound fitted.

I live on the North East Coast of the UK and got most of my idea`s from shows, magazines, and of course the Internet.

I have bought a few 2nd hand items, but from experience I now buy new. I did not join a club, as the only one local is very small and at the time most layouts were analogue.

As I had jumped in with DCC (digital command control) from the beginning, I thought it would not be of much help.

By the way DCC is the only way, it is so much easier.

After the opening shot and the two car passenger pulled into the station I almost expected it to pull away and to see a lot of the passengers had disappeared from the platform. (I wish they had !). You may not be a Steven Spielberg Dave but your videos are truly amazing and I bet he wishes he has your incredible modelling skills.
You are obviously not short of a `bob or two` shown by the quality and extent of your layout(s), but I would put that down to a lifetime spent working and putting in the same meticulous efforts demonstrated in your brilliant modelling layouts and videos. More power to your elbow !
I will never be in a position to get anywhere near your achievements but I can assure you that I get as much pleasure out of your models as you do. Thanks a million !
    Len.

The type of layout I can only aspire to. As I am still in the planning stage I would appreciate some plan views of various layouts and dimensions as my available space is restricted. Ray……….

    • Davidjhowarthbeacon

Thanks Ray, keep at it I started with just a 6 x 4 layout 4 years ago , and sort of got carried away.

I like the show. I too am in the process of building a N-gage railroad. I had one about 30 years ago. Gave it up because I was in the military. Now that I am retired I have the time to go slow and have fun.
    Again nice job.

    • Davidjhowarthbeacon

Thanks Larry, as I did when I retired , it keeps us old one`s occupied i a most enjoyable way
      Cheers

appreciate the steadyness of the camera…assume used a tripod…more enjoyable to watch! Nice job!!!

    • Davidjhowarthbeacon

Yes I did use the tripod this time, it has it`s problems though as it ristricts what you show when trying to keep the size of film down.

Very nice Dave. That`s a lot of layout for only 8′x20′ and I love the detailing of your whole city. Great job. Why did you decide to go with oo gauge if I may ask?

    • Davidjhowarthbeacon

Thanks Gary, the layout is 8 x 30 must have been a slip on the computer keys, I went 00 as N gauge is too small for my eyesight, I even get problems with 00, and the 0 gauge is too expensive,
      Cheers Dave

Thanks for showing us the lay-out

      • Davidjhowarthbeacon

Thanks Dan, glad it has helped to give you some idea`s

    • Mikelclod

What a wonderful display. Thanks for sharing. I put up a 12′ x 16′ platform for 3 months over Christmas with my good old American Flyers but wish I had the luxury to be able to leave up year round. I thoroughly enjoyed your movie. I can only guess the amount of work it took.

      • Davidjhowarthbeacon

Thank you for your kind comment, I would have the same problem if I had not converted my loft so that I could use it for the model railway.
