  3. I agree that model railways can be as cheap or as expencive as you yourself demand , i havve always bought second hand or of ebay or at swap meets always setting my self a limit on the price i wish to pay .

most things i make my self ,recycle or come up with new ways to produce a replication of what im after , by one sheet of brick or stone paper and copy it on printer this can save a lot of money , card building
—-when you need two ormorethe same the same buy one and copy on your printer then glue to card which can be salvaged from numerous every day packageing , back ground papers again can be copied . there are lots of things you can do to keep the price down , make a 1inch to the foot scale model of how you want your lay out to look like and stick to it . fleli track comes in meter lenghts cut out cardboard templates use on scale model as track , point measurements are in the catolouges borrow or buy an old one for referance , use flexi track which eliminates the problem with curves as it can be cut to size, and is cheaper then set track , use you food processor to chop up sponge , salvage the spunge used for washing dishes buy a pack of green scouring pads at Poundland there is enough if cut in 1/2 inch or 3/4 in heights that can do a large area of the lay out you can also glue some finely chopped foam this makes them look more realistic . go to a large diy store and buy a 5litres of white glue costs about £6 as oposed to £6 for and 500g evostick white glue it will do all you layout with some left over that can be given to a friend , polystyrene sheet can be used to create the terrain , i collect most of mine that was laying on the road side that had been blown from a building site but as the site forman if you can have the off cuts from the skip after all its only going to a land fill and dose not degrade so you will also be helping the inviroment .

recycle timber from demolition site again be polite ask the site manager of foreman tell him why you want it these peopl have children as well andif you nice and ask you will most like be told you can take it but only when some one is there as these site ar dangerous . ask some one who you know already has a train layout . see if you can visit them see if you can buy things they no longer need or want whatch what they do ask them to show you take notes and sketches . and if still at school you can bet the boys who have trainsets there fathers will be involved and helping them ask to visit . if any one needs to ask any thing else please contact me im rafmtd my email is alexmilitary@hotmail.co.uk and i will always put the information on this site , im not an expert but have been modeling for over 50 years and have had to find cheap ways to get and expensive effect im still learning no one knows every thing and if we took 100 of the best modellers in the uk we still would not know every thing . this is the best hobby there is keep it going for the next generations and lets for once keep arecord of all the hints and tips so others may learn
