Basildon Model Railway Exhibition

The 2011 Basildon Model Railway Exhibition (Essex, UK) was well attended and enjoyed by all.

A large variety of scales was on display including HO, OO, N, Z scale. As usual Thomas was a big hit with the children.

Below are 3 videos that show the highlights of the model railway exhibition.

If you are in the area, this is a model train show that is well worth attending.

i attend our local train show every year and have done so for the past 20 years. Our show is the largest train show in western canada. It occupies an entire indoor soccer field and is the best show i have ever seen    Try and attend some time     bob

Dan, being very new to the hobby, I have not had an opportunity to attend a railroad show.  These videos were great.  I can not wait until I have an opportunity to attend such a show.

I always Peco flexible track. It gives me complete freedom to design my layout as I want it. It is fully flexible in that both rails are free to move in the chairs. You have to trim the track to fit the next section but that is quite easy and I always solder the joints to make sure they do not come apart.

I attended the National Model Railroad show in Sacramento in early July, 2011.  It was outstanding but these are nice for those who have not been able to go to the National show.  I

This show can’t touch the World’s Greatest Hobby Train Show for interesting layouts, Vendors, and Thomas the Tank Engine Train that the kids could actually ride.  Also had an awesome and hilarious “Disaster Layout” depicting earthquakes, sink holes, bridge collapses and many more scenarios.
Sorry, but I’m also partial to American locomotives. European motive power and rolling stock looks “toy-like”.

Pretty good standard of detail in all of the layouts, pity about the poor electrical work on some, as it detracts from the overall presentation, with locomotives having fits of stopping and starting – I know that there are problems with movable layouts and getting the alignment just right when you put it all back together, nevertheless… it is all part of the detail of the presentation. I won’t mention the shaky camerawork.
There are many model railway shows and then there are some better model railway shows.  However, the standard of model railway show depends on the organizers getting (and being prepared to pay for) good layouts to put on display.  The distances that one has to travel in Australia are enormous and the transportation costs are inhibitive.  I will be travelling about 650 miles to go to my next show !  Expensive !

I guess I still think of all the shows I have to here in the Denver area I think the best is the Worlds Greatest Hobby show that comes to this area about once every 5 years. They have the best RR layouts, the most helpful info for someone just starting model railroading, just the best.

Check out the Amherst Railway Society website, just google Amhert Railway Society and it lists our options.  We provide many grants to add in restoration of cars, locos, stations, etc.  We have a RR Show every year at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield Massachusetts where we cover four buildings with many modular layouts, dealers, clinics, private vendors, etc.. Nothing but RR related items..  It’s held for two days with some clinics starting the day before the show opens..  Very impressive and rewarding.. Please check it out.. It might be something you could utilize with this site of yours Don..  I’m enjoying your site very much.. I hope you continue..
